Adopt a Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair Cat

Sadie the Cat needs a home

Name: Sadie
Breed: DSH Tortie
Approximate Age: 1
Approximate Weight: 9 lbs
Personality: shy but give her a little love, and she is VERY affectionate
Observations with Dogs: good
Observations with Cats: good
Observations with Kids: good
Currently Living at: DC area foster home

Being a shy cat in a shelter, Sadie was consistently passed over, even though she is sweet as can be. While the shelter can be overwhelming for even the most outgoing kitties, poor Sadie was terrified there, so much so that the shelter staff kindly allowed her to hang out in the office to give her a break. And there she just blossomed and soon found her way to the cat coordinator's lap. Proof that shy cats just need time and patience....

What worked against her at the shelter can also work against her in rescue, though, since she likely won't be a candidate for adoption events due to the stress, and even during meet and greets, she may just want to hide. It's understandable, given all that she's been through.

Cats like Sadie deserve a chance, though. The benefit of a foster-based rescue is that in a stable foster home, we're able to see the cat settle in and learn about their true personality and disposition.

Sadie hid for most of her first day in her foster home. She hid for most of the second day, but actually sat on her foster mom's lap. She comes out of her shell more and more each day! The good news is that she is affectionate!

Sadie is quiet, clean, and very sweet. She does well with other, including gentle kids and dogs. She'd love a patient and nurturing family who will take the time to win her over! She is worth it!

Please note that cats adopted through DC PAWS must be indoor only, and may not be declawed.

The adoption fee for this cat is $135 for cats. If you are interested in adopting Sadie, please submit an adoption application at https://dcpawsrescue.org/adoption-info/adoption-application-cats/.DC PAWS Rescue does our best to provide accurate and complete information about our adoptable animals. Please note that we cannot make any guarantees about age or breed; we rely upon our rescue partners and their veterinarians to make those assessments. We also cannot make any guarantees about housebreaking and animal temperament, as animals can behave differently through transition and in different environments.

Our shelter partners provide a basic vet screening for each animal we rescue, which includes necessary vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay/neuter (unless the animal is too young or otherwise deemed by the vet to not be a good candidate for surgery). Please note that this is not a comprehensive medical exam and as such, may not identify any and all medical issues, though our goal is to flag any obvious health issues through the basic vet screening. We share all medical records with adopters and flag any known issues prior to adoption finalization.
